With the early National Signing Day approaching quickly, we are going to examine the 2023 recruiting for the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers’ coaching staff is doing a great job of recruiting impact players on the defensive side of the ball. Head coach Ryan Silverfield and his staff have done a great job of recruiting prospects that can come in quickly and have an impact on the field. We are going to look at some of the defensive prospects that have placed verbal commitments with the Tigers.
Arion Carter-Linebacker-Smyrna-6’1” 205-Pounds
The Smyrna linebacker is a prospect that plays with tremendous explosiveness. Carter has the speed to get off blocks and blow-up plays in the opposing offensive backfield. Opposing offensive lives have a difficult time accounting for the talented linebacker. Carter is a linebacker that does a great job of reading the play, attacking the blocks, and the ball carrier. With over 30 teams recruiting Carter, the Memphis staff have done an excellent job recruiting the Smyrna linebacker.
Cevan Edwards-Defensive End-South Atlanta-6’4” 260-Pounds
Cevan Edwards is a prospect that has impressive versatility along the defensive front. He has the speed needed to kick outside and rush the passer as an edge rusher. Meanwhile, he is strong enough and quick enough to cause plenty of problems at the defensive tackle position. Being able to dip into Georgia and snag prospects out of Georgia is impressive. As many schools and coaches that recruit Georgia hard, landing a player with Edwards’ talent is a good sign for the Memphis coaching staff.
Tyson Edwards-Safety-John Overton-6’2” 180-Pounds
The first thing you will notice about Tyson Edwards is that he has excellent speed. Tyson Edwards has impressive coverage skills in the secondary. He is not afraid to get physical with opposing wide receivers and will deliver a hit. Edwards has the ability to play the cornerback or the safety position. However, I see him more as a safety at the next level and it is because of his ability to arrive full force and make a hit. Edwards is a prospect to watch out for, his skill set is impressive.
Jayden Marable-Defensive Tackle-Smyrna-6’2” 290-Pounds
Jayden Marable has an impressive mix of power and speed. He is a defensive lineman that can pressure the passer from the defensive tackle spot. However, he is also a lineman that can effectively shutdown an opponent’s rushing attack. Marable is always around the ball carrier and does not quit on a play. He is an in-state prospect that the Memphis coaching staff is doing a great job of recruiting. Marable is a prospect to keep an eye on the rest of the season, he is playing with serious momentum at the mid-way point of the season.
